Taco Pizza

The more we make our own pizzas, the more I wonder why frozen pizzas exist.  I mean, these things are so easy to make and SOOOOO much better than just about anything you can pull out of the freezer.
This weekend, Lee threw together this tasty taco pizza.  Refridgerated can dough, refried beans, all the taco toppings and Doritos!   Ok, it's not terribly healthy, but it's super good.

Here's what you need:  I made my taco meat before the picture which is what's in the bowl. Also in the other bowl are the crushed-up Doritos to sprinkle on top. You can leave this out but we love the crunchy cheesy flavor it adds.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees or whatever temperature the pizza dough package says that you have.

Spread out the dough onto a greased sheet pan.

Bake pizza dough for 5 minutes only and take out to add toppings

While the dough is cooking, microwave the beans for 1 minute in a bowl. I added a bit of chopped jalapenos and cheese to the beans after they cooked for the minute.  Spread onto the partial cooked pizza dough and spread out to a thin layer.

Add the taco meat.

Next add cheese.

Top with tomatoes, olives and green onions.

Bake for 3 minutes then pull out and sprinkle with the Doritos.  Bake for a final 4-5 minutes.

Cut and serve right away.

Ingredients:
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 envelope taco seasoning mix
  • 1 refrigerated pizza crust or your favorite.
  • 1 (16 oz.) can refried beans (I used the jalapeƱo kind)
  • 2-3 cups shredded cheddar cheese or Mexican blend
  • 1/2 cup chopped tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives
  • 4 green onions, chopped
  • 2 cups crushed Doritos

  2. Spread out the dough onto a greased sheet pan. Bake pizza dough for 5 minutes only and take out to add toppings
  3. Brown ground beef and drain. Add taco seasoning to the ground beef according to the package directions.
  4. While the dough is cooking, microwave the beans for 1 minute in a bowl. I added a bit of chopped jalapenos and cheese to the beans after they cooked for the minute.
  5. Spread beans onto the partial cooked pizza dough and spread out to a thin layer. Add layer of taco meat and a layer of cheese
  6. Top with tomatoes, olives and green onions.
  7. Bake for 3 minutes then pull out and sprinkle with the Doritos.  Bake for a final 4-5 minutes.
  8. Cut and serve right away.
